Press Release Body: Dr. Christophe Labie, Group Leader of the Molecular Neurobiology Group at Sanofi-Aventis will give a presentation entitled "Stimulation of Brain Neurogenesis: A Way to Replace Neuron Loss in Diseased or Injured Brain" at GTCbio's 4th Stem Cell Research & Therapeutics on April 17-18, 2008 in Boston, MA.
Regeneration-based therapy is an emerging area in modern medicine, as is evidenced by numerous publications over the last decade. Published studies provide strong evidence that neural stem cells or progenitor cells (herein referred to as NSCs) persist and are widely distributed throughout the adult nervous system. In the injured or diseased CNS, NSCs self replicate, migrate to damaged areas, and attempt to repair damage by differentiating into neurons, astrocytes, and/or mature myelin forming oligodendrocytes. One focus of the Sanofi-Aventis CNS department is to identify pharmacological compounds that favor brain repair by enhancing physiological natural repair processes. More specifically, the increase of neuronal replacement by compounds stimulating endogenous neurogenesis, such as xaliproden, will be presented.
Besides Dr. Labie's presentation, the conference also features presentations from other leading organizations such as Beckman Research Institute, FDA, Genzyme, Merck, MIT, Pfizer, Sangamo BioSciences, Sanofi Aventis, University of Van Amsterdam, Whitehouse Institute, and many more. The full agenda is available online at www.gtcbio.com.
GTCbio's 4th Stem Cell Research & Therapeutics will cover topics as Stem Cell Biology, Adult Stem Cells, Embryonic Stem Cells, Differentiation of Stem Cells, Epigenomics & Reprogramming of Stem Cells, Regenerative Medicine & Therapeutics, Stem Cell Imaging, Regulatory Aspects & Funding Opportunities, Cancer Stem Cells, and Stem Cell Applications in Drug Discovery.
